What are reishi mushrooms?
Ganoderma Lucidum is a rare mushroom rich in 「Beta glucan」
Ganoderma Lucidum belongs to Basidiomycetes Polyporaceae species of mushrooms. The history of studying Ganoderma Lucidum is long. Approximately 2200 years ago, the efficacy of Ganoderma Lucidum is documented in China's oldest medical book " Divine Husbandman's Classic on Pharmacology ". It is also recorded in Japan’s “Chronicles of Japan” as “tufted herb”.
Under ordinary circumstances, it grows rarely on the decayed tree of Prunus mume, oaks. Nowadays, artificial cultivation has become possible. We have also set up our own R & D cultivation techniques and then carry on the production. We are currently producing two types of Ganoderma Lucidum: the "red Ganoderma Lucidum" and the rare " Deer Horn Shaped Ganoderma Lucidum ".
Depending on the amount of light, temperature, humidity, and other factors, the Ganoderma Lucidum shape changes considerably, and sometimes lose its umbrella shape and take the shape of Deer Horns. Among the Ganoderma Lucidum Mushrooms, the Deer Horns Shaped Ganoderma Lucidum contains a higher value of Beta glucan.
Once reserved for royalty to extend life and improve health, this polypore mushroom is strikingly beautiful. Deep reddish brown and saucer-shaped, often emerging from a branch-like stem, its smooth upper surface looks lacquered when wet. Because of this glossy appearance, Western mycologists called them "varnished conks" for many years (conks are mushrooms that have pores instead of gills on their undersides, such as maitake and turkey tails).

Because of its rich history and long tradition of medicinal use, Ganoderma lucidum (in the strictest sense) is now one of the few mushroom species whose DNA has been fully sequenced (16,113 genes). Others are button mushrooms (Agaricus bisporus) with 10,438 genes and oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus ostreatus) with 12,330 genes (Joint Genome Institute). Reishi is remarkable for its diversity of genes coding for cytochrome P450 enzymes. These enzymes not only afford this species a broad arsenal for producing secondary metabolites for digesting nutrients but may also confer benefits to human health such as enhancing the degradation of toxins and free radicals and increasing the liver's metabolic efficiency. The variety of these enzymes, among more than 400 active constituents that have been found, indicates that mushrooms such as reishi are like miniature pharmaceutical factories that can produce hundreds of medicinally-interactive compounds. Through trial-and-error and observable outcomes, our ancestors narrowed the field of edible mushroom candidates to just a few with remarkable, health-supporting properties. Today, reishi stands out as one the most valuable of all polypore mushrooms in nature for the benefit of our health. What are the active ingredients? what are the benefits of reishi?
Water-soluble polysaccharides were recognized by researchers to be the active ingredients found in Reishi, they have anti-tumour, immune modulating and blood pressure, blood circulation lowering effects.
Triterpenes are also an important active ingredient, Reishi has a high content of ganoderic acids that are known to alleviate common allergies by inhibiting histamine release, improve oxygen utilization and improve liver functions.
Mushroom? how about the side-effects?

Modern wood log technique to cultivated reishi at a bigger scale was developed in Japan in the 1970s, products from Japan tend to use Safe and high-grade Reishi.

What are the different types of cultivation for red Reishi?
The most common method of cultivation are the wood pulp (sawdust and bottle), wooden box, and natural wood log cultivation.
Wood pulp cultivation consists of placing wood pulp or sawdust in a glass bottle with Reishi fungi added. After 3 months, this usually will yield small mushrooms of relatively poor quality.
Wood box cultivation involves grafting the fungi into a wooden log which is then placed in a wooden box. Reishi of medium-size and moderate quality are generally produced through this method after 6 months.
The natural wood log method, developed first by the Japanese, is the most complex form of cultivation and produces large red Reishi with superior quality.
The process involves first culturing high-quality Reishi fungi strain in test tubes for about 85 days. Germinating fungi are then placed into drilled holes of selected high-grade logs between 26 to 30 years old. The logs are then placed in a greenhouse and buried under nutrient-rich soil for 5 months. During this growing period, the Reishi fungi absorb almost all of the nutrients from the soil.
Growing conditions require continual monitoring to ensure a high-quality Reishi harvest.
Why Red Reishi? What is the difference with the other reishi?
Among all the reishi that are known to have health benefits black and red Reishi have shown the most potency in dealing with diseases and were proven to be the ones with the most considerable health-enhancing effects.
However, red Reishi has been proven to be the most effective in improving one’s overall health by enhancing the immune system, many bodily functions, and vital organs. Black Reishi (Ganoderma Sinensis), is fairly common and can be found in most Chinese herbal shops (they have a lower content in active ingredient and are less potent).
